18 Days In A Row

This is a new record for consecutive days where I find at least one cache each day. This batch contains some of the most difficult puzzles I have encountered. I have to say, though, that for some of the more difficult ones, I needed the help of fellow cachers or the cache owner. This run contains a solo trip to the east valley to grab several that were published since I had cached through there last year. It also has lots of caches I found during lunch breaks at work.

Saddle Mountain and Seaside

Orange Crash and I climbed Saddle Mountain this weekend. This was the first time I've been up here since the big storm. We found the cache easy enough even though the mountain was literally covered with both other climbers and trail workers. The other caches in Seaside were easy enough to find, especially because Orange Crash had already found most of them and if I needed help he was quick to point me in the right direction.

A Hiking Weekend

Took the family hiking in Mac Forest this weekend. It threatened to rain and then followed through. We couldn't get all the caches at once as the little ones were wet and cold so I came back for a return visit for the rest of them. THe next day Alex and I went for In The Heart in town.

Very Good Puzzle

This was my second FTF (First To Find). Wendi and I looked at this one the night it was published and I think more than anything else, stumbled upon the correct version of words and Shadowtiger gave up the correct coordinates. So, I went out right away (9:30PM in the dark) because I know that the Corvallis area has many folks who take their caching seriously. It was a very quick find though.

Highway 53 Caching Run

Orange Crash and I spent Saturday caching from sunup to sundown (and then some). We had a great breakfast (finally) at Camp 18 and didn't stop until we got to Astoria. At the end of this caching run I found my 600th cache! Sunday Orange Crash took my picture with the web camera on the Maritime Museum for yet another cache.

Sunday Afternoon

Caching Run With Orange Crash (again)

Orange Crash came down and we hit this day for a whopping 36, a personal best for us! (He couldn't leave well enough alone though and got 1 more on the way home.) For me this is one of the best ways to geocache, when we have several loaded up on a particular route and we just hit it.

A Single But A Toughie

This little sucker took a WAY LONG time to complete. Once finished and I went to look for it, it was muggled! So I had to wait a few days for the owner to replace and the rest as they say, is history.

Went out with Orange Crash today for a whirl-wind tour of west rural Salem. We had, what I believe, were personal bests for most caches in a single day. It snowed, sunned, and rained on us.

Chip Ross Park

These are caches that are located in the Chip Ross Park section of Corvallis and I really haven't been saving them but I also haven't gotten up here to get them before today either. Most were pretty straight forward though there was another puzzle cache recently placed here (Morris The Cat). For the last two on the list I took my boys and Bear with me. The boys complained that they didn't want to go but while we were hiking I heard comments like "awsome" and "can I do that part again?". So I guess they enjoyed it a bit.

Finally, Getting To Some Puzzle Caches

Okay, so since the beginning of the year here in the Corvallis area, there have been at least 15 new puzzle caches posted. To me, most of these have no apparent solution and have completely stymied me. A few I have some ideas on how to solve and have been working on them and finally completed three. These two other caches were in the area and I had to grab the smilies!

Trip Out Of The Fog And Into The Sunshine

Today I went early and drove north to get some traditional caches. Started out in the complete fog and by the time I hit the first cache it was bright sunshine, albeit very cold. On a side note, when I parked to get Trick or Treat II, the park was closed. There were several other cars parked and so as to not block them in, I parked off to the side. When I got back from my 20 minute jaunt to the cache, there was a county mounty parked behind me giving me a ticket for parking on the grass. My left two wheels were on the grass though in an effort to justify my actions to the officer I explained that I didn't want to block anyone else in and could he please give me a warning? He stopped writing his ticket for a brief second and then replied that since he had already started it he HAD to finish it. I wonder if that's the line they teach police officers in police officer school?

On another note, when I went looking for Let's Go Swimming I was stopped by a state employee doing some brush removal in the park. He warned me that there was a cougar spotted in the area the last several weeks. He talked about different ways to avoid a cougar and if that wasn't possible, what to do if I encounter one. I listened intently. All in all a very eventful caching day. :)
